A new flannel PoW suiting

Postby alden » Sun Sep 27, 2009 2:46 pm

I have been asked to look at a project for a PoW suiting. It seems the idea for this cloth was launched on another forum but did not come to fruition for one reason or another. The suiting in the picture below is an interesting one, a grey on grey PoW with a light pink and blue overcheck.

I have given my design input to the weavers concerned and they are preparing a test based on my specifications. I have asked the weavers to blend a bit of brown thread into the grays to soften the background. A true black on white background with pink and blue would shout out too much.

The brownish cast to the gray, akin to the LL Coopers tweed, will accept the pink and blue threads nicely and provide a subtle contrast and give the eye interest without a slap in the face.

If there is interest in this cloth, to be made as a 13 – 14 ozs flannel, I will be glad to hear of it.

Cheers

Good morning, Michael!

Apologies for my absence. A definite interest here, please!

I'd jump at this one too. The CC has been particularly strong in an area where tour favorite distributors fail badly -- exploiting the potential of PoWs for colorful, tasteful, subdued color schemes. I hope others agree.

Great support for this cloth from this elegant membership.

I hope to have samples before Christmas. Should be a lovely cloth and one I am very much looking forward to see made

I'll freely admit that I was a bit too quick in judging worsted flannels as generally inferior to woollens. I have see a couple of stunning worsted flannels at Vienna's W. Jungmann & Neffe recently which made me change my mind. I may be interested in this cloth as a worsted flannel, too, since I am sure that Michael will make it an exceptional cloth anyway.

Hi Michael,

I'd like to register my interest too for at least a suit's worth if this project goes ahead.

Gieves & Hawkes were selling a DB, near identical cloth, in the sale. It was marked down from £1,600 to £600 yeserday, the last day.
