Re: when to wear a suit?
I wear a suit, and a necktie, Mon-Fri almost without fail, as a matter of choice. As an academic, even in a leadership position, I could probably turn up looking like a farmer. However, my colleagues know what to expect (some of them do likewise) and if I dressed any differently they would probably ...

Re: Winter footwear in a formal context
I suppose it depends on the severity of the weather but I find these work quite well as a sturdy outdoor shoe that is acceptable in a more formal setting - https://trickers.com/collections/country-shoes/products/ilkley-country-shoe-black-scotch-grain Tricker's is definitely the place for this sort o...

Overcoat length
I have an Ulster style overcoat in the works. Simple question: how long should it be? The modern trend with overcoats, like suit coats, seems to be to have them far too short. My preference is probably an inch or two below the knee (I am 5'9" tall). I welcome your thoughts.

Re: Trouser braid type for black tie?
I have double braid on my current dinner suit trousers, but from what you say that is possibly a bit too formal. I am also contemplating a new dinner suit for the warmer months and am interested in some of your other stylistic choices. Since my current barathea number is DB I was also thinking SB pe...

Re: Coronation Dress Code
HM's military tailor is Malcolm Plews. Full Dress Admiral would be my guess.

Re: Understanding French Ties
A thought that obviously keeps HM awake at night.muted dress on an Agnelli or Toto will appear "understated" while it will fade to "dull" on any other mere style mortals.

Ramroop
The guest on BBC Radio 4 Desert Island Discs today was Andrew Ramroop. Somewhat surprising that the BBC would choose a tailor to appear on this popular show, and one 99.9% of the population (at least) will never have heard of. Some interesting snippets about the Row at a particular point in time, an...

Oh, I think you have probably met them more than you realize, they just haven't told youI have rarely met a tailor who works on the basis than they know what is better for their client than their client does.

Re: Steven Hitchcock Wabi Sabi
I have just worked it out and I think I have probably used seven or eight cutters over the years, mostly out of curiosity and, objectively, probably not a good idea. I have enjoyed the experience with almost all of them. I find that tailors listen, but only up to a point. In the end they all do what...
