Re: London lounge mohair (midnight) suit or tuxedo

A tuxedo is logical, of course for this fabric. Is there a good place to buy silk facings? I’m thinking satin but get enough for more than 2-3 tuxedos and 2-3 bow ties so that it all matches. I sourced the midnight navy satin silk for the facings on my midnight blue dinner jacket from a place in Lo...

Re: London lounge mohair (midnight) suit or tuxedo

Andy: I ended up buying a length of standeven explorer midnight for the double breaded navy suit I was thinking about. (Also, it has the benefit of being great for summer, which was what I was going for). I also got a lumbs golden bale London shrunk for the fall / winter version of this. Throw on th...

Re: London lounge mohair (midnight) suit or tuxedo

I haven’t tried this in steamy weather, but I would be disinclined to slot it into that. More of a year round evening thing that could mitigate high temperatures at banquets and opera performances. Okay. So I have a follow up to this. I will do it as a tuxedo (I ended up getting a standeven explore...

London lounge mohair (midnight) suit or tuxedo

Hello everyone:

The title speaks for itself. My initial thought was using it for a tuxedo. But now I am considering using it for a suit. What do yall think. I live in Florida, so itd hopefully be able to withstand hot weather.

Warm regards
Jonathan

Re: The ultimate polo coat

And one final thought: On Michael, suggestion, I think I’ll go for ulster lapels, martingale back, inverted pleat. Maybe turnup cuffs on the sleeves (not sure, I’ll leave that to the tailor) & probably envelope pockets because it’s a 500g cashmere & vicuña blend fabric. Strongly leaning toward my Fl...

Re: The ultimate polo coat

So I’ve narrowed it down. Now, the question is do I used a Milanese tailor or Florentine tailor? I’m leaning toward Florentine: 1. To me a polo should be soft, with a slightly extended shoulder & no front dart. 2. My Milanese tailor is making my ulster with the LL cashmere. Thoughts? Also the fabric...

Re: The ultimate polo coat

Would consider perhaps nixing the breast pocket on this set up too, my tailor suggested going without on my polo coat and really find it looks a lot less crowded/more elegant. Oh interesting, I have to think about that. I need to think about it. I always envisioned it with a barchetta pocket. But n...

I came across this coat, made where my Florentine tailor was trained. Man. That is a great looking coat - I think that is very convincing.

Re: The ultimate polo coat

Thanks Michael, I’m on the same wavelength as you, with the one exception being peak lapels vs. doppio uso lapels. It’s something I’m thinking about. Obviously, with expensive purchases, you don’t want to make a mistake. My reasoning for peak over doppio uso was that I already had a doppio uso lapel...

The ultimate polo coat

Dear friends, I am considering placing an order for a polo coat for next fall (I have plenty of time). The fabric for a polo coat, of course is camel-colored. Perhaps you can do a camelhair, cashmere or even vicuña. Now, on to the styling details. Let’s start with the front & then move to the back d...

Re: Overcoat lining

Thanks, perhaps I should request a pure silk or regular lining then. Which do you think is better? For the record, she is quite a beautiful closet queen. I think, while it’s difficult, re-lining a coat is very doable. I’m sure your tailor, who you undoubtedly have a long relationship with, would be ...

Update: I’ll take the fabric to Italy & the tailor will make the decision.

Re: Overcoat lining

Well that’s true, I am up against a relatively mild winter. Perhaps I should save it for a lighter weight coat. Perhaps something more fine.

I’m doing an ulster with the LL cashmere with a martingale back. Maybe I should save it for. Chesterfield.

Overcoat lining

Dear friends, I am currently ordering my LL 1kg cashmere overcoat & I had a question: what do you think of a cashmere / silk blend lining? I have a length of lightweight cashmere silk that I don’t know what to do with. I bought it a while ago. It’s a deep violet, almost navy fabric. I originally tho...

Re: Grey flannel suits

Flannel is a rather unusual material today for a suit, not commonly seen at the workplace. When I want to absolutely not draw attention I wear a SB worsted cloth but more and more I care less how what I wear is perceived by others and more about what brings ‘me joy. So I will be going for DB for bo...
