Re: Michael Browne
Dear Bwooster, Michael is a wonderful human being, I enjoyed working with him so much. My fittings used to sometime take 4 hrs as we talked so much. I will say a word of caution as I actually did not end up enjoying the two suits I have from him. One I don’t wear at all as it has a huge collar gap ...

Re: London lounge mohair (midnight) suit or tuxedo
Dear jonathans, I made it up as a tuxedo - it ends up looking more like barathea than I expected, it certainly has some texture to the cloth. It’s a very stark and formal cloth due to the slight shine from the mohair. I too have considered it as a suit to wear in the evening, I believe it should wor...

Re: Michael Browne
Bwooster,
Actually the black mohair would not have served you for a coat with Michael. This is what I brought him the first time I went there and he refused to work on a cloth he has not worked with for a first coat.
Best,
A

Re: Blazer style choices
So I did the following: DB 6x2 blazer with gold buttons - very classic SB summer - hopsack 11 oz, horn buttons, patch pockets, 2B SB winter - LL cashmere, horn buttons, flap pockets, 2B What I found is that I wear the SB jackets much more and I think it’s partially because SB is easier to wear than ...

Re: Is grey more elegant than blue?
Having worn tailoring everyday for work for a few years now, I have come to the following personal realization. I feel more “cozy” in grey suits and on more relaxed days that’s what I pick to wear. When I don’t have many meeting and am feeling a bit down, I go for grey. On days I feel much more powe...

Re: Winter footwear in a formal context
. What I hear in your post is psychological discomfort at wearing boots in the office. One (perhaps costly) compromise would be to get dressy black calf boots with storm welted soles and studded rubber soles from G&G, and wear them at the office on cold sloppy days. I think Manton used to do someth...

Re: Morning Suit - advice sought please
I have contemplated a lot on the topic and often think about having a morning coat made knowing that it will never be worn, perhaps on a wedding day when I am lucky enough to plan for one (not the case yet). Nevertheless, my OCD personality would live much more calmly knowing that should the occasio...

Winter footwear in a formal context
Dear all, I am looking for your advice and perspective on the following. I work in a very formal environment and everyday I wear a suit and 3 seasons of the year I wear black cap toe oxfords. However, when the winter arrives, oxfords are not an option in my climate both for warmth and for grip when ...

Which cloth tailors best?
Dear all, I am looking to invite personal experiences of which cloth has tailored best in your experience. 1. For me the best cloth I have had tailored has been heavy flannel. I feel it is really tolerant towards imperfections and covers them and presents a beautiful end result. 2. After that it has...

Re: Overcoat length
My own thought is somewhere around the knee. Some styles like to whoosh around a bit and can be longer. I'm still debating what sort of coat would make sense noticeably shorter. There is the tradition of a "car coat", but cars these days have roofs and I run warm. So if it is cold enough to justify...

Re: Grey flannel suits
Flannel is a rather unusual material today for a suit, not commonly seen at the workplace. When I want to absolutely not draw attention I wear a SB worsted cloth but more and more I care less how what I wear is perceived by others and more about what brings ‘me joy. So I will be going for DB for bot...

Re: The waistcoat conundrum.
My wife thinks I look far more elegant - and slimmer - when I wear a 3 piece suit. Funny, but I thought I was both those things anyway?????? You absolutely are - the waistcoat simply draws attention to that reality.. With the benefit of the sage advice given above, I have gone for the 4-piec...

Re: The waistcoat conundrum.
Dear Melcombe, When I order a 3 piece suit I order the coat, a waistcoat and two pairs of trousers - one with a fishtail back and one with a normal waistband. I wear the fishtail ones with the waistcoat and the other when I don’t wear the waistcoat. The coat is cut marginally larger to accommodate t...
