Re: Paris: a buttonhole needing repair

The Valet in Piccadilly Arcade might be able to turn it around if you can post it to them. They seem to have a lot of Savile Row pieceworkers doing stuff for them. Of course, post-Brexit that may be more complicated. But worth a look. Thanks, but as you say, Brexit has made simple things like this ...

Paris: a buttonhole needing repair

I have an overcoat in need of having a front buttonhole re-worked (by hand). I am in Paris these days but do not have any tailoring relationships here (and I don't expect to start one here). Additionally, I don't know when I'll be in London next. Would anyone know of someone in Paris (or just outsid...

Re: Paris signing

What's the book called? Without wishing to engage in any prohibited publicity on this forum, the book is called Swan Songs: Souvenirs of Paris Elegance, and is a sort of memoir of various landmark French men's shops and makers. There's a lot more about it online on derek's blog and elsewhere. Merci.

Re: The Unbuttoned First Sleeve Button

Noting the length of both Broooke's shirt and jacket sleeves (well onto the hand) and their close fit at the wrist, I wonder whether the style may have prompted leaving some buttons open to permit freedom of movement of the hand. This would be analogous to the (usually buttoned) slits in the hem of...

Re: The Unbuttoned First Sleeve Button

I've seen many who unbutton one or two sleeve buttons, particularly in Italy but also pasty northern Europeans that want to look Italian. However, I don't think I've ever seen more than one who was wearing a tailor-made coat (jacket); all others were factory-made. Whatever the historical context(s),...

Re: Christmas tale from Switzerland

Dear Shredder, they are a Macedonian tailors family. I knew the father, who moved to Switzerland and who passed away a couple of years ago. The grandfather had already been in the business. Today, a son is running the shop, the third generation is around and also some uncles. He said he currently h...

Re: Christmas tale from Switzerland

Dear Shredder, so I finally got my act together and commissioned a linen SB coat with this tailor. I'm looking forward to the result... I'm curious. The approach he is taking is not exactly what I'm used to. But he said he was hungry for some decent work. I will report. Cheers, David Many thanks fo...

He will certainly. I just have to turn my cloth trunk upside down to find the right cloth.

Cheers, David
Been away from LL for a little while and came back to find this thread.

Do, David, any updates with your local man? Just very curious.

The main male characters in Season 3 are dressed by Timothy Everest (although Timothy himself left the firm a couple of years ago to set up MBE, cf., www.mbe.studio).

Some interesting comments in this thread... Always interesting to see the diversity of views. Out of professional curiosity, could you please list the features you would want in an ideal suitcase and a carry-on luggage, whether they are functional, mechanical or cosmetic, and assuming price is no ob...
