Re: Understanding French Ties

Sarkozy allegedly wore grenadine ties from Stark & Sons, which were made by Boivin.

If you suppose that a certain set of men in Continental Europe aped an idea of British dress that was conservative and more Catholic than the Pope in terms of sober and muted colors, you would not be wrong.

Re: Understanding French Ties

Sarko allegedly wore grenadine silk ties, I believe the erstwhile tailoring company Stark & Sons claimed he wore theirs (which were made by Boivin).

What's the book called?
Without wishing to engage in any prohibited publicity on this forum, the book is called Swan Songs: Souvenirs of Paris Elegance, and is a sort of memoir of various landmark French men's shops and makers. There's a lot more about it online on derek's blog and elsewhere.

Paris signing

Not being quite sure where to post this, I am posting to this sub-forum in the hope that the moderators will tolerate it or move this to the appropriate sub-forum. Having recently published a book of memoirs about Paris' most memorable classic menswear makers and addresses, I will be having a signin...

Re: Bespoke shirts: the Details

Is David Gale still there Concordia? In 2020, Hilditch & Key London said that their bespoke shirts were being made in Brescia, Italy now.

I want to just open a bottle of champagne and chill, at home, relaxed, in my ridiculous Sulka peacock brocade smoking jacket.

Re: Shoe care in London

a question popped into my mind, when do you throw out the shoes?? I have two pairs of EG shoes, where the top leather is a little broken where the crease from walking is... I love the shoes, can't part with them, but are they still worth re-soling? Why not contact EG to ask if their recrafting serv...

Re: Some Facts from Jonathan Sothcott's "The Jermyn Street Shirt" Book

Gentlemen, There is a new book around -- "The Jermyn Street Shirt" by Jonathan Sothcott (who is -- by his own admission -- "the king of gangster B-movies" at his day job!) As such, it's of little interest for LL members -- in many aspects, Mr Sothcott's book can be compared with the well-known "Gen...

Great memory, a complement to the anecdote about him getting carefully showered, shaved and immaculately turned out to go deck Mick for drunkenly calling him early in the morning.

Re: Trench coat?

Henry Poole is now publicizing a technical fabric raincoat they are making and selling. I don't have any experience with that product but I would imagine it is reliably waterproof. Even if Burberry is synonymous with the trench coat there must be a number of good makers besides it out there. Grenfel...
