Re: Tailors don't live forever

My own tailor retired at the end of last year at the age of 81. I initially thought he would not be able to enjoy his retirement as he had worked 6 days a week for over 60 years. But he actually never seemd happier than in the last few months. Having built up a personal friendship - despite a 30 yr+...

Re: Tie with black suit

I can`t remember that posting.. :) Even though the face has gotten some patina since posting the suit still fits.... I second both of Andrew's suggestions above. If you have black hair and strong features, you might pull off the black suit, but in any case a shirt and tie that bring some lumin...

Re: Maltese Flacon

I think Bogey and the other actors wore their own clothes as it was custom in the old days. According to some contracts I have seen they had to provide their own wardrobe.

Re: Waistcoat

I mostly stay on the safe side: SB, 6 buttons, no lapels. I once had a waistcoat made up with lapels but still am not sure about it... maybe on a country suit.

Re: Bespoke Black and White Houndstooth Sportcoat

I would prefer a larger size. A small one might look like an orphaned suit jacket and reminds me of cheap RTW jackets from the 90s.

Re: Bespoke Loden?

Thanks, Martin.
I know that my trouser makers are doing the trousers for them (just as they do for
Max Dietl
in Munich).
I don`t know if that are good news since Dietl is very pricey  , kind of a German Huntsman in that regard

Re: Bespoke Loden?

Richard3 might have better ideas though. Thanks for the flowers, David, but I think you are right. A classic Loden overcoat in the style pictured above might best be bought OTR. I had a Loden coat made by my tailor some years ago but it had nothing to do with a traditional coat and hence had to be ...

Re: Summer Jacketing

Re LL Linen: I had the opportunity to browse through the LL linen book last week at my shirtmaker. It simply is of the best quality imaginable. I have to order a jacket length of the navy herringbone.

Re: Enough room for a jumper?

I usually only wear thin John Smedley knits which cause no problems. With Tweed coats I sometimes wear the vintage LL shetland sweater vest so those coats are cut a tad roomier.

Re: Trousers

I also used a tailor from Bratislava once about 11 years ago. He saw clients some days a week at a legendary Viennese haberdasher. I still wear the suit; it`s no marvel in terms of handstitching etc but it fits well and so worth every cent of the EUR 1.100,00 (!) I paid for the suit with two pairs o...
