Re: North of Italy: Milan, Turin, Genoa

Gentlemen, I'm back from my trip; here are some [very, very belated...] random notes and impressions. First of all, thank you again to everyone who replied on my questions! All your suggestions proved to be right on point! Among the three cities, my personal rating is: 1) Genoa 2) Torino and then [a...

"Soft Hand"

An interesting take on what differentiates[ed] "West End tailoring" from the rest: What set the work apart was manifold. Historically, prices at most tailoring firms were based on the weekly wage of their client base. London's West End, serving the world's wealthiest customers, was able to charge t...

Bwooster, trettay, thank you both for the superb recommendations!

trettay -- your post is what makes this forum the place it is. It was worthy for me to start the thread for your reply alone!

Re: North of Italy: Milan, Turin, Genoa

It's been quite a few years since I was in Genoa, but it is a lovely city with a very rich history. There is a street that runs from the harbor back up a hill that is lined with grand palazzos built in the heyday of Genoa's maritime power. It is well worth booking a guided tour of these palazzos. I...

North of Italy: Milan, Turin, Genoa

...or Milano, Torino, Genoa :) I plan to visit these three cities during a Spring break in April. Never been in any of them before. Any recommendations? Of what? -- not major tourist attractions (I can use a guidebook for this) nor bespoke artisans (no time for this). But lesser-known tourist attrac...

Darts on the back allow to make a shirt fit again when the wearer becomes roomier.

Just like inlays in suits.

Read any other good clothing books recently, Andrey??
Yeah, there is an obscure book on some obscure menswear makers -- next in my reading list, and the harsh opinion for sure to be shared!

Some Facts from Jonathan Sothcott's "The Jermyn Street Shirt" Book

Gentlemen, There is a new book around -- "The Jermyn Street Shirt" by Jonathan Sothcott (who is -- by his own admission -- "the king of gangster B-movies" at his day job!) As such, it's of little interest for LL members -- in many aspects, Mr Sothcott's book can be compared with the well-known "Gent...

Re: Crisis on Savile Row: can British tailoring survive the impact of Covid-19?

Foster and Son have left Jermyn Street, it appears. They have a new workshop in Islington; appropriately enough the address is Northampton Street They also changed the name to "Henry Maxwell": https://www.instagram.com/henrymaxwell1750/ As one knowledgable LL member explained to me, this is apparen...

Re: Teba fabric?

I have three tebas, one from the original jersey fabric, two others from a lightweight donegal tweed and some worsted. I have to say only jersey works flawlessly; others feel like a compromise, due to the lack of stretch in the fabric.

lulz, have you seen how Flusser prefers to dress now?
You mean like here?

Well, I would absolutely welcome an intellegent participant to LL, even if he dresses in some odd ways.
