Re: Balint shoes, Vienna-- death of Mr. Balint

Great guy -- excellent shoemaker -- a real loss.

The few pairs I have from him are some of the finest and most comfortable shoes I have every had.

Terry: Apologies for the late response. The key differences that I see are: > Weight -- Breanish is lighter weight (typically 10-12 oz) vs Harris (typically 16-22 oz. for jacket weight) > Design -- Ian was a master at mixing colors to create fundamentally new designs that did not previously exist (I...

Sator said: "Curiously, Balint does not believe in trial shoes. They don’t feel they are useful and will make a new pair up free of charge if the first pair fail to fit." Absolutely true -- my pair fit reasonably well but were still slightly off in a few areas -- yet still wearable. When I showed th...

You can still find good Harris Tweed -- in fact, I just got one woven to my specs!

LBD (Harrison's) is working with some folks to come out with an exclusive Harris Tweed range which will probably end up accounting for nearly all the commercially available Harris Tweed

Why does everyone feel the need to criticize A&S all the time? Especially the A&S alums with these veiled references to "changes afoot"? Get a life guys! I have used A&S for several garments for the past few years and been completely satisfied. The fit is as good or better than any tailor I know. Th...

Re: Not a pub, but...

Visited that restaurant during my last trip to London. I liked it so much for lunch that I returned for dinner! Meeting Richard Corrigan during the lunch hour and helping him pick just the right condiments for the new four-year aged ham was a blast. In addition to the food, their fresh-baked breads ...

Hi David: I get the bespoke ties at T&A -- similar construction to their basic ties but you can pick the shape, width, linings, etc. as with your offerings. As a result my T&A ties and SH ties are in essence the same shape and width. There are three points I would make: 1. The colors of the T&A gren...

For what its worth, T&A grenadines are way better than Sam Hober. Still better ones are available at Domenico Spano at Saks.

Manton: The most versatile business travel shoe I own is a round-toe black elastic sided shoe -- great with just about everything and easy to remove and put on at airports. Knitted ties are great and go with just about everything -- Rubinacci carries some very nice examples. Each shop seams to have ...

They have had problems getting proper distribution -- one guy carries one book of their fabrics but doesn't really market them Then these were planning to use the former head of Oxxford but he never could set up US wide distribution Only realistic options are Jodek and Isles and those two probably d...

kolecho wrote:What would you consider as a classic plain brown tweed?
Kolecho -- I have a couple pieces of old brown harris tweed that are now being made into jackets. Personally, I cant think of a more handsome sport jacket.
