Re: Bow Ties

Scot,
We Americans do a lot of things well, you should have never left us! Just kidding of course, because we love your country. I spent three weeks there in January and was treated so wonderfully. We can't wait to return. My hope is that you are treated so well when you visit us.

Bow Ties

I live and work as an engineer in a town of perhaps 20K in the mid-Atlantic. A few years ago my wife started a company called Glen James Bow Ties, so I wear one of her designs every day to work. They are all rather conservative, stripes, prints, tartans.. I have found that I really like them, so pra...

Re: What is your choice for blazer buttons?

{ really like the dark blue blazer and have three of them one for summer, winter and midyear. All three have the same buttons, pewter with a crest. I only paid a few dollars for them at Joanne Fabrics and have had them for years, In my view ,they are perfect.

Re: Fabric for bow ties

Classic The goal is an aesthetic one, to bring the bow tie into the mainstream of business and social dressing, We feel that this is the right approach. Bow ties are cleaner, cheaper, more practical and much more comfortable than long ties. No reason not to wear one except for common aesthetics and ...

Fabric for bow ties

My wife has recently started a business called Glen James Bow Ties. She designs and produces traditional, hand crafted bow ties in woven silk, wool, and silk/wool combinations. We have been more than pleased with our fabric sources thus far, Stephen Walters for silk and Ingles Buchan for wool. We wo...

Watching Bloomberg this morning I was impressed by the familiar presentation, bow tie and double breasted suit. Perhaps it is just me and that I want to be impressed, for I always wear the former and often the latter. Still, this gentleman always looks so professional and ready to work.

Re: Bow tie with contrast collar ?

Thank you all. I am convinced.
More importantly, has anyone read the bio of David L. Evans. Perhaps we should all try to be more like him.

Bow tie with contrast collar ?

I recently, and happily, have gone taken to wearing bow ties. So much more practical and comfortable. In my long tie days, I occasionally wore a pale blue or grey shirt with contrasting white collar. I have never worn these with a bow tie and my inclination still says no. But I thought that I would ...

Re: Last Bow Tie Day

True enough, the bow tie shows more shirt. There are a number of ways to deal with this. Vest, slipover, double breasted coat, or a shirt that has some interest on its own, such as a check. One could also ask, is this an issue in the first place? Consider the dinner jacket which traditionally has on...

Re: Last Bow Tie Day

Thank you all for the thoughtful comments. After reading my own post from the twelfth night, I decided to extend my bow tie wearing for a week, then two. I'm still wearing them. Gentlemen of the London Lounge, this is an idea whose time has come. Cleaner, neater, generally more casual but can be mor...

The duke of Edinburgh wore clothes about as well as anyone. Tall ,slender and always in straight posture I have long admired his presentation. I trust he looks even better now,

Re: Last Bow Tie Day

Melcombe, Interesting that you should mention the UK. I was there on holiday in the late winter of 2019. I saw very few bow ties, yet mine seemed to be appreciated. I often wear them to cultural events like concerts, plays, museum trips, whisky tastings so a trip to the UK was a bow tie event for me...
