Re: Photos of recently commissioned Rubinacci suit

An interesting discussion. Comparing the two suits would seem to me to be comparing "apples and oranges." However, each House's entries could certainly be entered in the elite class running of the "bespoke arms race." A couple of random thoughts: I have never understood a silk lining for a summer w...

Re: Photos of recently commissioned Rubinacci suit

As to Caraceni, did you use the Milan or Rome atelier? The Caraceni jacket had a cleaner chest and appeared more structured, but I liked how the Rubinacci 3 piece combo looks on you. It is very rare to see a vest out of Rubinacci...or anyone out of Naples Could you post the Rubinacci suit jacket al...

Re: Photos of recently commissioned Rubinacci suit

Michael, thank you very much for your thoughtful analysis. When I return from my current business trip (I'm in the air as I write this) I will take photos of an older, and much more worn, Rubinacci suit and see how that one compares to the newer garments. I should point out with respect to the sport...

Re: Photos of recently commissioned Rubinacci suit

Thank you all for your comments. Let me address a few of them: Whnay, you are partially correct about the reason the collar is not resting on my neck correctly. The suit and jacket weren't just out of the box--I have worn them a few times--but I did not follow the "Mariano" process of tugging on the...

Re: Photos of recently commissioned Rubinacci suit

Looks like you had a good time - your in good hands with both of those tailoring houses. I would say that the garment from Rubinacci, especially the pants, fit you very well. I would have probably used a heavier fabric for the 3-piece but it looks like the suit can be worn comfortably without the v...

Re: Photos of recently commissioned Rubinacci suit

An interesting observation about the Caraceni. Rubinacci does, though, actually make a shorter jacket--to the edge of the thumb instead of the curl of the fingers. I think the shorter jacket looks better on the height-deprived (of which I am one).

Re: Photos of recently commissioned Rubinacci suit

Although perhaps I should start a different post for this, for comparison, below are pictures of my Caraceni suit: http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd376/wcp45/b694ff66.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd376/wcp45/459b871d.jpg http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd376/wcp45/ba05757d.jpg ht...

Re: Photos of recently commissioned Rubinacci suit

While I was at it I thought I would post pictures of a sports jacket I had made at the same time as the suit. The front view: http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd376/wcp45/d9980d73.jpg The photo is a bad one, and the color is washed out. This is another (albeit bad) photo of the front view: http:/...

Photos of recently commissioned Rubinacci suit

Gentlemen, I haven't posted much in the last few years (though I read constantly), and I thought it was time to become more active. I thought I would start with some photos of a recent commission from Rubinacci. If this post with photos works, I will later post photos of a suit I recently had made a...

Ed, good advice. Unfortunately, living in Los Angeles gives me little opportunity to wear nice flannels (though I enjoy wearing them on my east coast trips). But I like the thought--pretend they're suede. Marcelo, I wear belts which are similar in color to the shoes, but not necessarily the same kin...

If you're concerned about the retirement ages of your tailors you should know that the Caraceni brothers in Rome are, I believe, in their late sixties or early seventies. If I were you that would not scare me away--to the contrary, it would make me want to make use of their talents while they were a...

Marcelo, I do not know the answer to your question, though your hypothesis probably explains why these shoes feel perfect out of the box, while my other bespoke shoes (from Lattanzi, Lobb Paris, and Cleverly) have all had an initially tight fit and had to be broken-in to feel comfortable. It's somet...

It is a quandry--they look great, but they will always be noticed, so they can only be worn sparingly. I've actually worn them with jeans a couple of times to good effect. They don't seem to stand-out as much with jeans. The fit and craftsmanship, however, are terrific, so I'll be ordering more shoe...

New Corthays

I am just learning how to post pictures, so I hope this works. A couple of months ago I took delivery of my first pair of Corthay bespoke shoes. It was a long process. I was fitted in January of 2007 in Paris. I could not make it back to Paris so I met Pierre in New York in October 2007 for my trial...
