Excellent cloth caps in the back, including up to size 8. And if you have an extra yard of LL cloth, they will make one for you out of that.
I believe it was you, Concordia, who mentioned Longmire, the cufflinks vendor, recently. I asked James MacAuslen about them recently, as he works close by and Jermyn Street is a small community. According to James, Longmire declared bankruptcy in order to get out of the lease of its shop on Jermyn Street. That location is now vacant (along with a few other stores in the vicinity, I am told). It seems that Longmire's intent is to move its business entirely online. Based on the evidence of the Longmire website, that is still a work in progress.

I shall miss the store on Jermyn Street. So it goes.

That is a shame. Early on, they could be kind of snobbish and unhelpful, but they always had wonderful collections of new links and dress sets. I hope they re-group and come back with those.

They appear to be operating online, or at least they are responding to emails. It is a shame the store is gone. I hope they are able to continue in some form.

Yes, I hope so, too. I agree, the store wasn't exactly welcoming, especially as you had to be buzzed in. But when I visited I invariably found the people working there to be friendly and helpful.

Re: Longmire.

Ouch! :(

It was a shop with one of the most beautiful window displays. They occupied a pretty small space... it's a shame a company like Longmire is not able to withstand even such a tiny piece of West-End real estate these days.

It seems they will be reopening soon on-line.

And an update:
Pleased to say that we have the website up and running again .....

www.longmire.co.uk

Well ... sort of .... the cufflinks are there but we can’t take payment via the site ... any purchase would need to be via bank transfer.

How difficult is it, in 2020, to stand up a website that can accept payments? If Longmire, or anyone else, is serious about moving their entire business model online, one would think having an e-commerce capability would be priority #1.

No idea. They used to do it before, so maybe it is a quirk of British bankruptcy law?

Interesting thought. I have no idea, either.

It would be interesting to see how such a niche and exclusive maker would be able to survive in online-only mode.

I have my doubts... :(

Lots of other jewelers do a lot of on-line business. And Longmire is an established brand-- not trivial when you're wading through the web to find something.
