Taps for the beloved composer who left us today. I will miss his concerts, but his music will be with me forever.

I saw the news last night. Very sad. "The Ecstasy of Gold" (L'estasi dell' oro) is a favorite and quintessential Morricone.

Watching Danger: DIabolik and Operation Double 007, both of which he scored, in his memory today. I highly recommend them.

Morricone most most widely known for his work with Sergio Leone. But that exceptional work was the tip of an amazing iceberg. Here are a few names for you to google and listen to:

Mission, The Master and Margarita, Malena, Cinema Paradisio, La Leggenda della Pianista sul Oceano, La Califfa, Sauna, Terrazza, Guns for San Sebastian, Il Grande Silenzio, My Name Is Nobody, Questa Specie D’Amore, Nostromo, Se Telefonando, D’amore Si Muore, Clan dei Siciliani, The Professional, Per Amore, Ritratto, Metti Una Sera, La Cugina, Come Maddalena.

If you ever have a chance to see The Master and Margarita with Ugo Tognazzi, don’t miss it. (A clip) And here is a version of the main theme.

And there is this hauntingly beautiful piece I play almost every day on the cornet.
